Digital Theme Week for Shop Stewards “If we stick together, anything is possible”

“If we stick together, anything is possible.” That is the message of the digital “Shop Stewards” theme week. During the event, IG Metall shop stewards from various workplaces discussed these issues online and worked on their guidelines: How should we position ourselves in the workplace? How can we recruit more members and grow stronger to successfully fight for our jobs? How can we help shape and determine our future?

Other topics included job security through training, new approaches to organizing white-collar workers, the work of female shop stewards, and dealing with right-wing populists.

IG Metall Leaders Join the Discussion

In the evening, the discussion was open to everyone. Also in attendance were the two chairs of IG Metall, Jörg Hofmann and Christiane Benner.

The digital “Shop Stewards” theme week replaced this year’s nationwide IG Metall shop steward conference. Every four years, delegated shop stewards meet there to develop guidelines for the coming four years.

“With the ‘Shop Stewards’ Theme Week,’ we’ve shown that dialogue is also possible digitally,” explains Heike Madan, head of the Shop Stewards Department at IG Metall. “There was lively participation in the seminars and in the chat during the evening web talks. With our range of topics, we clearly struck a chord with the shop stewards.”
