All across the country, anticipation for vacation is building. Many workers and their families are longing for a breather—for a vacation.
With these tips, IG Metall members can save money and keep track of their travel budget.
How much should you spend on vacation?
People often spend a little more freely while on vacation. If you want to avoid financial shortfalls, you should set a maximum travel budget in advance and plan your vacation accordingly. For many trips, it’s relatively easy to calculate the daily expenses: How much does lodging cost? How much do meals cost locally? What local fees, such as visitor’s taxes, need to be factored in? What do you want to treat yourself to on vacation? Information on almost every destination is available online.
Staying at a Youth Hostel
Linoleum floors and bunk beds: That’s what many people think of when they hear the word “youth hostel.” Today, however, many hostels look quite different—much more modern. They offer modest comfort—comparable to hostels or basic hotels. And they’re affordable, especially for families. The German Youth Hostel Association (DJH) operates around 450 youth hostels nationwide. Anyone who wants to stay there must first become a member of the DJH.
Bonus tip: IG Metall members can once again this year sign up for one of a total of 100 DJH memberships through the IG Metall service company, which is free for the first year. This offer is valid through December 31 of the respective year.
