File Your Tax Return
Many people tend to put off the paperwork, even when there’s money to be refunded. Work-related expenses—still the best way for employees to save on taxes. Need help with your income tax return? Through the IG Metall Service Company, metalworkers can get advice at over 3,000 counseling centers run by income tax assistance associations. For IG Metall members, there’s no enrollment fee, and depending on your income, the membership fee is on a sliding scale. You can find a local advisor using the ZIP code search on the Servicegesellschaft’s website. After entering your ZIP code, the nearest counseling centers will be listed.
Staying Healthy and Active as You Age
Older adults are at increased risk of severe illness if they become infected with the coronavirus. The Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) provides information on its online portal “Staying Healthy and Active as You Age” about how older adults can best protect themselves from infection and what they can do for their health and well-being in the current situation . The resource supports older adults with practical recommendations for daily life at home. It also offers exercise tips via video and illustrated exercise descriptions. You can do many of the exercises indoors or outdoors, either alone or with a partner.
String Games to Pass the Time
Young and old alike can test their dexterity with this game. What your child needs: their fingers and a string (about two meters long) tied into a loop at both ends. Three guides for string games are available for download from UNICEF.
The Federal Office for Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance (BBK) has published a video clip on its YouTube channel with behavioral tips for children and teens. In the video, the two main characters, Max and Flocke, provide age-appropriate information and tips on social distancing and hygiene rules, healthy eating, daily routines, and dealing with boredom for children ages seven to twelve.
