“ATU runs its own academy here. Among other things, mechanics and master technicians from auto repair shops receive continuing education here. For example, they learn about wheel alignment or how to use a new diagnostic tool—things like that. Or a sales trainer works with seminar participants on customer service and how to present new products. Our apprentices are also trained here. We’ve even set up a complete model branch here. My job is to organize these seminars. I accept registrations, call participants if there are any issues, and send out the materials. Then I support the seminar participants here on-site as well as the in-house trainers. My responsibilities also include equipping our training rooms: Are there enough supplies—pens, flip charts—and is the catering all set?

Everyone wants a decent salary and regular pay raises, don’t they? Here at ATU headquarters, we don’t have a collective bargaining agreement yet, but we’re on the right track. Of course, we need members to make that happen. Why else would the employer sign a collective bargaining agreement? That’s why we’re convincing people to join IG Metall. It takes a little time. But we’ll get there. “In 2014, we elected a works council for the first time. It was a long struggle to get there, but fortunately, IG Metall never gave up, and that’s why we’ve made significant progress now.”
