2023 Union Convention IG Metall elects new executive board

The 421 delegates at IG Metall’s 25th Regular Union Congress elected the new executive board. Christiane Benner (55) is the new First Chair—the first woman to hold this position in the union’s history. She received 96.4 percent of the votes. The new Second Chair is Jürgen Kerner (54). He received 95.6 percent of the delegates’ votes. The convention also resolved that, going forward, one of the two top leadership positions must be held by a woman.

Nadine Boguslawski (45) was elected as IG Metall’s new Chief Treasurer with 87.4 percent of the vote. The following were elected as additional executive board members: Hans-Jürgen Urban (62) with 95.2 percent of the vote, and Ralf Reinstädtler (57) with 92.2 percent of the vote.

In addition to the five executive board members, the delegates also elected 29 honorary members of the IG Metall Executive Board—primarily works council members and IG Metall shop stewards from the companies—as well as seven members of the Audit Committee.
