Tasks unrelated to the apprenticeship, unpaid and unjustified overtime, or canceled classes at the vocational school: Apprentices turn to our youth representatives with such problems. Together, they look for solutions—dropping out of the apprenticeship is generally only the very last resort.

The local union supports young people through counseling, as does the DGB Youth’s “Dr. Azubi” portal. On the website, apprentices can ask questions that are answered in the online forum.

Clarifying Mutual Expectations

Trainees can also find points of contact directly at their workplace: the works council, as well as youth and trainee representatives, offer advice when difficulties arise. You can also ask your trainer or vocational school for a meeting to clarify mutual expectations. The chambers also have advisors who help resolve problems at the workplace or vocational school.

Support During Your Apprenticeship

If the difficulties become so severe that they jeopardize the successful completion of your apprenticeship, it’s time to seek help. If you’re struggling to keep up at vocational school, you can apply for support during your apprenticeship through the employment agency. This support is provided free of charge; assistance is offered by an educational provider that develops a personalized support plan. For example, you can receive tutoring in German and other subjects. Or you can get help preparing for exams. The counselors can also help with personal issues involving your training company.
