PRESS STATEMENT Jörg Hofmann on the election of Olaf Scholz as Federal Chancellor and the swearing-in of the new federal government

Jörg Hofmann: “This federal government now has the opportunity to transition from being an administrator to a shaper of the future: The issues of a sustainable industry and renewable energy, social security, and opportunities for all workers are urgent. They determine the cohesion of our society. We expect the new federal cabinet not only to ‘dare to make more progress,’ but also to act quickly and concretely build a better future!

In addition to managing the pandemic, workers are concerned about the transformation of industry in Germany. Shortly after the election alone, 50,000 IG Metall members took to the streets during our day of action to ensure that the new coalition steers this transformation toward social and ecological goals. Key ideas we put forward are now reflected in the coalition agreement, for which we congratulate Olaf Scholz and his ministers.

A social, ecological, and democratic transformation requires a joint effort by policymakers, businesses, and unions. IG Metall will continue to take responsibility for shaping a fair transition in the future.”
