Short-term relief measures are the right approach, but long- and medium-term stabilization is necessary!

Gasoline must remain affordable; the reduction in the mineral oil tax must achieve exactly that. Following the significant price increases of recent weeks, the windfall profit tax must be implemented. Relief on energy costs must also be achieved for energy-intensive industries and their employees.

Workers need more money in their wallets; the relief bonus can help here in the short term. We call on employers to ensure that this money reaches employees quickly and without complications. One thing is clear: stabilizing incomes in the long term remains our task and our mission!

IG Metall’s pragmatic approach to the transition to a climate-neutral automotive industry has gained traction, and we welcome this. By securing market share for hybrid vehicles, we safeguard jobs at suppliers and win over skeptical customers. After all, it is equally clear that the future is electric. Likewise, the need for local value creation must now be immediately incorporated into Germany’s position. This applies equally to the automotive and steel industries.

We are keeping a close eye on the plans regarding statutory health insurance and will actively participate in the process. IG Metall will not support any unilateral burdens placed on the insured.
