PRESS STATEMENT IG Metall Welcomes the Launch of the Electric Car Incentive Program – Local Content Requirements Must Be Introduced

“It’s good that the new electric car subsidy program is now launching—IG Metall has long advocated for making electric mobility accessible to broad segments of the population. We need this boost to accelerate market growth so that jobs at manufacturers and suppliers are secured for the future.

It is now crucial that the subsidy actually has this effect. The tax revenue allocated for this purpose must reach German plants and be converted into jobs. This requires local content requirements. The federal government should support the European Commission’s ‘Made in the EU’ proposals and not water them down.”
